The Principles Behind King Pawn Openings
king pawn openings are probably one of the more common openings you will make or you'll observe that is made in many chess games. Many players, and not only beginners, prefer King pawn openings for a number of reasons. The material presented here will look into the guiding principles behind the many King Pawn openings. You will notice that we will not endorse, sanction, approve, or be in favor of any King Pawn opening, but will only present ideas that go along with them in general.
King Pawn openings are those that begin with 1 P - K4, P - K4. Given this initial position, any player will notice that there is a balance between Black and White. Given the treatise we presented on chess openings, we can figure out that it is important for both sides to maintain this balance. In the immediate circumstance where one of the two parties violates the normalcy in development and position as defined principles in the opening.
Black, given this opening is able to attain an even arrangement with White in that White is unable to pose any claim to any sort of advantage on either center or development. One basic goal that White can adopt is to force Black to relinquish his position for the Pawn at K4. Black can then counter by strengthening his position on the center while developing other pieces as they come into play.
There are two important principles behind establishing a Pawn on a player's K4. First, and quite obviously, is that keeping a Pawn on your K4 position will easily cramp your opponent's pieces, thus hindering your opponent's development. Second, your Pawn in the K4 position will act like an outpost for your other pieces as they are developed later on in the game.
We would like to advise any player, on the other hand, that a Pawn on the K4 is never an absolute advantage for either player. A Pawn, like any other chess piece on your board, is also vulnerable to attack. Any piece that is threatened can be turned from a piece of strength in your position to a potential weakness.
Now, if any player is able to maintain such a position from the opening until the mid-game, then a great option for that player is to use that critical position to attack. Take notice that it would be quite difficult for any player to start a siege from the flanks when the opponent has established a strong position on the center.
These are the ideas and principles behind King Pawn openings. Take note of the principles and possible flaws of such chess openings.
